Biography

Carl Reinerdirector with roots in the Russian Empire

Carl Reiner was a comedian, actor, director, and writer whose career spanned six decades. Co-creator of The Dick Van Dyke Show, a founding voice on Your Show of Shows with Sid Caesar, and comic partner of Mel Brooks, Reiner was one of the architects of modern American comedy.

Russian Connection

Tracing the roots — USA

Born in the Bronx in 1922 to parents who emigrated from Austria and Russia, Reiner grew up immersed in the Yiddish-inflected immigrant humour of New York. His father's Russian-Jewish heritage — storytelling, self-deprecation, comic timing under pressure — ran through his artistic DNA.
