Peter Green — fleetwood mac with roots in the Russian Empire
Peter Green was a British rock musician who co-founded Fleetwood Mac in 1967 and became one of the greatest blues guitarists of his generation. B.B. King called him the only guitarist who gave him cold sweats. He wrote Albatross, Black Magic Woman, and Oh Well before mental illness derailed his career.
Tracing the roots — Rus/Pol Jews
Born Peter Allen Greenbaum in Bethnal Green, London in 1946 to parents whose families had emigrated from Russia and Poland (Russian Empire), Green grew up in the Jewish immigrant community of East London. His blues playing — raw, emotional, technically extraordinary — carries something of that outsider intensity.
A career defined by ambition
"I can't say I'm sorry for the music. The music was real."
