Tracing the roots — Kyiv (Ukraine)
Born in Kyiv in 1960, Pinchuk made his fortune in steel pipes before becoming Ukraine's most internationally connected philanthropist and businessman. His YES forum — bringing European and global leaders to Yalta annually before Russia's 2014 occupation of Crimea — was one of the most consequential vehicles for Ukraine's European integration. His father-in-law is former President Leonid Kuchma.
